Oglasnik
Oglasnik is Croatia’s first marketplace where people can buy and sell directly to each other. It started in 1989 as a print classified ads newspaper and has grown into a major online platform. Users can find ads for real estate, cars, and other items.
My Role
Lead Product Designer, responsible for redesigning Oglasnik.hr over 1.5 years. I worked across discovery, research, design, and building a new design system.
Project Background
Oglasnik.hr is one of Croatia’s oldest classifieds platforms, but its website hadn’t been updated since 2015. Competitors were offering modern, mobile-first experiences, while Oglasnik was outdated, cluttered, and hard to use. The redesign aimed to modernize the platform, improve usability, and create a foundation for future growth.
Problem
Before the redesign, Oglasnik was outdated and difficult to use. Users struggled to navigate, post ads, and trust the platform. At the same time, the business was losing revenue from poorly performing paid ads and over-relying on one category.
Poor accessibility – Low contrast and unclear interactive elements hurt usability.
Outdated UI – Inconsistent fonts, colors, and components made the site look old and hard to maintain.
Complicated navigation – Users often felt stuck in categories with no easy way to explore others.
Weak mobile experience – Slow load times and layouts that didn’t adapt well to small screens.
Low paid ad visibility – Promoted listings were hidden in a slider, limiting exposure.
Over-reliance on one category – 80% of traffic came from “Personal Contacts,” limiting growth in other areas.
Solution
The redesign focused on making Oglasnik simple, modern, and consistent. We improved navigation, streamlined posting, boosted paid ad visibility, and built a solid design system for future growth.
New Design System
Built a custom system on Tailwind CSS to unify typography, colors, spacing, and components. This gave the platform a consistent look and made collaboration with developers faster.

Simplified Navigation
Introduced an “All Categories” menu, giving users a clear overview of every main and subcategory. Account actions were grouped under the profile icon for a cleaner layout.

Refreshed Homepage
Reduced the homepage to six main categories with vibrant colors and hover effects. Added flexible ad sections that marketing can update to promote campaigns or subcategories.

Unified Ad Feed
Replaced six different feed templates with one consistent layout. Added dropdowns for subcategories on main category pages to improve navigation and SEO. Increased the number of ads per page from 20 to 120 to keep users engaged and improve retention.

Improved Filters
Made all filters visible from the start, removing hidden dependencies. This helped users narrow down options more easily and reduced frustration.

Redesigned Ad Cards
Created a clean, structured card design inspired by the first Oglasnik newspaper. Integrated paid ads directly into the feed with subtle fire badges instead of a clunky carousel.

Better Ad Detail Pages
Reordered layout so descriptions appear first, redesigned galleries for smoother browsing, and structured parameters more clearly. Added location links that open directly in Google or Apple Maps.
